HISTORY OF SUPER VAC MFG. CO., INC. HISTORY OF SUPER VAC MFG. CO., INC.

Super Vacuum Mfg. Co., Inc. is a leading manufacturer of portable ventilation fans, emergency flood light towers, and rescue trucks serving fire and police departments, search-and-rescue teams, and other emergency-response services across the country and around the world.

The company was founded in the 1930's as the Super Vacuum Propeller Company designing and producing innovative propellers for various uses. Super Vac found it's market in producing efficient ventilators to remove smoke, heat and gasses in fires and other emergency situations. The company has since expanded into the related fields of fire rescue trucks and flood lighting for emergency support services. Located in Loveland, Colorado, Super Vac employs more than 100 people in its three divisions: Super Vac, SVI Trucks, and Command light.

Super Vac

Super Vac designs and manufactures its unique line of electric, gasoline, hydraulic, and air-powered ventilators. These devices remove smoke, heat, and dangerous gasses from a fire to improve visibility, increase the chances of victim survivability, and reduce property damage from heavy smoke. Super Vac has designed state-of-the-art ventilators for use in confined-space rescues to meet new OSHA regulations, The Super Vac name has become synonymous with the highest quality ventilation products for emergency use.

Super Vac was selected by the United States Navy to supply specially designed smoke ventilators for emergency use on naval ships. The contract required the company and its suppliers to institute strict quality control and maintain detailed documentation to ensure the ventilators perform under the extreme situations and conditions experienced aboard military vessels. The resulting design was a cooperative effort by engineers from both NAVSEA and Super Vac, which became an integral part of the Navy's general effort to modernize its fire-fighting and rescue activities.

SVI Trucks

SVI was Super Vac's first product-line expansion, entering the market of custom-built fire/rescue apparatus in 1971. The SVI division specializes in the manufacture of the following truck types built to the customer's specifications:

·        Emergency Rescue - Carries tools and equipment for rescue operations

·        Haz-Mat - Carries specialized equipment to battle hazardous-material incidents

·        Mobile Air - Provides air-compressing equipment to refill breathing-air bottles on site

·        Command Post - Provides command-support facilities for larger emergency situations

Trucks are available with walk-in or non walk-in bodies, and are built from corrosion-resistant steel, stainless steel, or weight-saving aluminum. Bodies can be built on the commercial or custom chassis of the customer's choice.

In 1985, SVI began a fire-apparatus refurbishing service that has restored numerous worn and damaged rescue, pumper, and aerial trucks to peak operational condition. Other services include replacing older cabs with the latest 4-door models, replacing rusted bodies with weather-resistant aluminum bodies, replacing water tanks on tanker trucks, and bringing any apparatus up to current NFPA standards.

Command Light

In March of 1992, Super Vac entered the related business of scene lighting for emergency services as it unveiled its new, patented Command Light. The Command Light replaced the hydraulic-operated light tower invented by the company in the early 70s. It is available in various sizes: The Command Light, the Knight Light, and the Shadow Light—all of which have been well received by fire/rescue-apparatus manufacturers for use on their own trucks. All models of the all-aluminum lights are easily mounted on cab roofs, over pump panels, or on the body of an existing vehicle, and require only 120-volt AC power to perform all functions (raise, tilt, rotate, and illuminate). Lights extend up to 10.5 feet above their mounted surface and are operated from the ground using an electrical umbilical cord.

The lighting systems are innovative solutions to the tactical problems darkness imposes on emergency personnel. It takes less than 15 seconds to deploy the light system's electronic robotic arm and position its high-intensity lights on any type of emergency situation. Tilt positioning and complete 360-degree rotation add to the versatility of the lighting systems.

Foundry

Super Vac has its own foundry providing the company with direct quality control over its manufacturing process as it casts fan blades, parts, and accessories for Super Vac's smoke ventilators, and many of the parts for Command Lights. The company currently has excess capacity in the foundry, and casts aluminum, brass, and bronze products for external customers including manufacturers of firearms, air-raid sirens, robotic welders, and others.

Facilities

In 2003, Super Vac completed its third building on the company's 6.4-acre campus to accommodate expanding manufacturing demands. The new 40,000-square-foot facility houses corporate offices, truck finishing, and engineering offices. SVI Trucks refurbishing, service center, and foundry occupy a separate 23,000-square-foot building while the main Fan and Command Light operations share another 25,000-square-foot facility.

Super Vac is well represented by national dealerships for all of its products throughout the United States and overseas. Nearly every night on the news across the nation, Super Vac products can be seen helping fire fighters do their jobs: saving lives. Super Vac takes great pride in the high-quality equipment it produces for the fire service. The pride is visible in the products it produces, as well as in the employees responsible for manufacturing these products.
